Since I work in the field, I am continuously learning about new technologies. My first suggestion is to read up on the subject you are planning to blog on. I would look up resources related to it and follow up on them regularly so that your knowledge stays relevant.
When it comes to the blog, I try and ask questions related to what is going on right now or in the near future. I also try and post articles related to these and then ask some of my questions based on the content. When it is something controversial, I look at the talking points and then ask if it is real or overblown.
